I am a psychodynamically trained counsellor, which means that I am primarily, although not exclusively, concerned with helping my clients discover how unconscious conflicts may be directing and shaping their emotional responses, behaviour and relationships. Past experiences of significant people and events continue to exert an influence over our behaviour in ways that we are often not conscious of.
Through an examination of significant memories, life events, dreams and associations I help clients develop greater insight into the roots of their current difficulties. We work to identify patterns of behaviour which may once have kept people safe from emotional distress, but which are now causing often bewildering and frustrating difficulties. Unacknowledged emotions (sadness, anger, envy, despair) may be discovered and experienced in the safety of the consulting room. I work closely with clients to ensure that the work advances at the pace and depth with which they feel comfortable.
